Targeted modification of reflection and transparency

The various coatings that FHR Anlagenbau GmbH offers for the optical industry are as diverse as the potential thin-film technology applications. We develop and optimise processes and equipment in close cooperation with our customers; one area of particular interest currently is interference filters and optical interference layer systems.

Our coating technologies can produce a wide range of filters. This includes edge filters, long and short pass filters, bandpass filters, narrowband filters, broadband filters, band-stop filters, laser filters, notch filters, polarisers, beam splitters, dichroic mirrors, cold light and heat mirrors. FHR systems are used in the production of optical filters (UV, VIS, IR), laser line filters and telecommunication filters.

Close cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films

It is also possible to produce anti-reflection coatings (AR), broadband anti-reflection coatings and high-reflection coatings (HR) to improve optics (lenses, prisms, mirrors) and display glass (smart phones, touch panels, automotive instruments).

Interference filters (thin film filters) or optical interference coatings are built from dielectric layers. They are characterized by the alternating sequence of high and low refractive index oxides, such as Nb2O5/SiO2. It is possible to produce coatings that consist of 200 or more of such single layers. The filtering effect is determined by the layer design and the individual layer thicknesses.

FHR's EOSS series® (FHR.Star.500-EOSS® and FHR.Star.600-EOSS®) is the world's most advanced production system for manufacturing precision optics, interference filters and display screens. These systems were developed in a collaborative project with the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST in Braunschweig, Germany.

FHR has also come up with excellent solutions from the FHR.Boxx and FHR.Line product lines for less complex anti-reflection coatings, such as broadband anti-reflection coatings. FHR systems can also be used to apply optical coatings to large-area formats such as architectural glass and window films.

FHR supplies specially adapted metal and ceramic sputtering targets for optical applications. FHR also offers sampling services for optical coatings to facilitate your selection of the most suitable process. Our experienced experts advise interested customers and help them decide on the proper technology well suited for their application.
